On June 22nd Santarém will complete 348 years of existence. City hall is working hard to get the city ready for the celebrations. The evangelical community also has an event to celebrate this important date.
Santarém is strategically located at the junction of the two biggest rivers in the region, Amazon and Tapajós. The PAZ base in Santarém has made good use of this location, planting 398 churches in the region, as of Dec ‘08, with 60 new in plans for this year.
PAZ has not neglected Santarém itself. The local PAZ church has 40,000 members in over 4,000 cell groups, with half of these been involved on one-on-one discipleship. We have 31 worship services on Sunday, on several spots of the city, to accommodate every one. We are on the process of building a bigger temple that can hold 10,000 on the main auditory. Our goal is to have 120,000 (by the way, the population of Santarém is 275,000). On average, over 100 people come to Christ every week.
