It’s been a long time since my last prayer letter. I arrived at Ammi back in late November 2005 and settled in the same little campus apartment where lived before, which I share with Gustavo, another single missionary and teacher. Gustavo loves gardening and has planted a nice flower garden in front of our little apartment.
Although I find myself pretty busy maintaining the school’s eclectic collection of old and new computers, I do manage to spend time working alongside the students in the afternoon work detail I do things like painting, book binding, and, for two days this past week, concrete work on our multi-purpose building.
This semester we have 65 students representing 14 different ethnic groups. About 20 of them speak little or no Portuguese and are enrolled in the basic education program. The others are at various stages of the Bible program. We should have nine students graduating this year and returning to their tribes to help establish the local church.
On April 22nd we leave on a two-week ministry trip, the first of two trips we are doing this year. During the trips we take a backseat, acting more like coaches, observing and giving advice when needed, thus giving the students the opportunity to put into practice what they learned in the classroom and gain some hands-on ministry experience.
We would appreciate your prayers for wisdom in managing the resources God has given us. The falling dollar, which is at its lowest in five years, and the rising costs have put a crimp on our purchasing power. It is not a bad place to be, as our faith will grow as we learn to rely more on God.
It feels really good to be back at Ammi, where I strongly feel God called me. Thank you very much for being a part of our lives here at Ammi.
God bless,
Ken Orr
